Look at the full set of instructions.
Care labels cover washing, bleaching, drying, ironing and professional cleaning. Read them together. A garment that can be washed may still have restrictions on heat, drying or pressing.
Treat temperatures as limits.
The care label should guide the maximum temperature, rather than assumptions based only on the fibre name. Linings, trims and construction can change the treatment a garment needs.
Professional cleaning has its own information.
The letters inside professional-cleaning symbols are intended for textile cleaners. Send a clear photo of the whole label so the cleaner can interpret it alongside the actual garment.
If the label is missing, ask first.
Tell the cleaner that you don’t have readable instructions. Provide photos, any known fabric details and a description of the condition. Don’t assume that a method used for a similar-looking garment will be appropriate.
Care-label principles referenced from GINETEX’s guide to care symbols. Always follow the instructions for your particular garment.
